LUMENIS IPL: Photorejuvenation of the Skin

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology uses intense pulses of light over different wavelengths to target various chromophores in the skin. This allows treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions which results in photorejuvenation of the skin. This device has several filters to allow for targeting of the specific depths of the skin. The skin tone is evened and provides a more youthful appearance by reducing age spots and visible capillaries. Common areas of treatment are the face, hands, arms, neck, and chest. Depending on the person, this may take several sessions but results typically begin after the first treatment. The ideal candidate has Fitzpatrick skin type I-IV. Other considerations for treatment include recent sun exposure, self tanner use, and a history of cold sores.

What Can I Expect From the OptiLight Treatment?

You may experience a warm or snapping sensation as light is applied to the skin. It is quite tolerable. The treatment is applied to the skin below the eyes and is non-invasive.

During treatment, your practitioner will cover your eyes with shields and apply a thin layer of cool coupling gel to the treatment area.

You can return to your daily activities and apply makeup straight away in most cases. It is recommended to wear sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure post treatment.

The treatment consists of at least 4 sessions spaced apart by 2-4 weeks.

Patients usually report improvement beginning after the 2nd or 3rd session.

Botox/Neuromodulators 

Neuromodulators are injections into specific muscles to limit movement, resulting in less wrinkles. This can also be used to reduce sweating in a specific area such as the axillae (armpits). The results of Botox injections typically last about 3 months.

Fillers

Fillers are injectable gels used to plump or define certain areas of the face. There are many varieties with different densities and properties depending on the desired outcome. These fillers last anywhere from 6 months to a few years, depending on each individual’s receptivity and facial structure.
