Cataracts are a vision problem that usually affects people over 60 years of age. It is characterized by cloudy vision and can make it hard for the patient to drive at night and recognize faces. Although old people are more likely to have this problem, younger people can develop cataracts, too.
The cause of cataracts is a buildup of protein in the lens, making it cloudy. This cloudiness of the lens prevents some light from passing through it, resulting in loss of vision.
Cataracts can be corrected with cataract eye surgery. At Aker Kasten Eye Center, we perform the cataract eye surgery using the femtosecond laser, the most highly advanced laser technology available today. We use the phacoemulsi-fication procedure to remove the cataract and replace it with an intraocular lens. This surgery is performed at our clinic as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. The procedure is painless and lasts only about half an hour. You will be allowed to go home on the same day of the surgery.
Recovery from the procedure can take about a week. You will be asked to refrain from doing any kind of strenuous work for about a month, but you can resume your activities within a week of the surgery.
Getting older doesn’t mean you have to have cloudy vision. Get those cataracts fixed at Aker Kasten Eye Center.
